Perimeter Institute provides outstanding research training opportunities to students at various stages in their education, from Undergraduate to Master’s and Doctoral levels. The Institute offers a dynamic environment and exceptional opportunities to select students accepted into the following programs:
Perimeter Scholars International
Perimeter Scholars International (PSI) is a 10-month, intensive Master’s level course, running from August to June each year. PSI is designed to prepare outstanding students from around the world for cutting-edge research. The syllabus exposes students to the whole spectrum of theoretical physics through a stellar array of international lecturers as well as dedicated PSI Fellows. Graduates receive a Master’s Degree in Physics from the University of Waterloo and a Perimeter Scholars International Certificate from Perimeter Institute. For additional information please see the Perimeter Scholars International website.
PhD Studies
Perimeter Institute invites applications from exceptional students wishing to pursue full-time graduate studies under the supervision of a Perimeter faculty member. Students will be enrolled in a PhD program at McMaster University, University of Waterloo, University of Western Ontario or another university, depending on where the Faculty member has an affiliation. Students should have interests in one of the primary research areas at Perimeter: condensed matter, cosmology, mathematical physics, particle physics, quantum fields and strings, quantum foundations, quantum gravity, quantum information, strong gravity. Find more information, including a list of current PhD students, in our Training section.
Visiting Graduate Fellows
Perimeter Institute offers a unique opportunity to select advanced international physics graduate students (PhD level). These Visiting Graduate Fellows would spend 4-12 months at the Institute, and participate in all research activities in their specific area of interest. They're also exposed to other fields of study at the Institute (condensed matter, cosmology, mathematical physics, particle physics, quantum fields and strings, quantum foundations, quantum gravity, quantum information, strong gravity). Find more information and apply in our Training section.
Undergraduate Research
Perimeter Institute accepts applications from outstanding undergraduate students to carry out research projects each summer from May to mid-August. Successful applicants will work with Postdoctoral Fellows at Perimeter on pre-selected projects. Undergraduate researchers are expected to complete the projects on location at Perimeter within the period mentioned above. Perimeter provides desk space and a living allowance to the selected students. For students coming from outside of the Waterloo Region, a travel allowance and accommodations may also be provided.
