2019-2020 CLASSICAL WORLD ARTISTS SEASON

Concerto Italiano, Baroque Ensemble
Thursday, January 16, 2020 AT 7:30 PM

Founder and conductor Rinaldo Alessandrini’s early music ensemble, Concerto Italiano, came into existence in 1984. Its birth coincides with that of the revival of early music in Italy and is, in no small part, responsible for it. Monteverdi, Bach and Vivaldi are the main composers who have inspired the group in honouring an appreciation of the language of Baroque music, making a new aesthetic and musical rhetoric available to a fresh audience. After several decades, the recordings of Concerto Italiano are still considered by critics and public alike to be the definitive standards of the Baroque revival and style.

Stephen Hough, piano
Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at 7:30 pm

An inimitable presence on the international concert scene, Stephen Hough is widely regarded for his exceptional mastery of the piano, with an artistic vision that transcends musical trends. Merging the imagination and pianistic colour of the past, with the scholarship of the present, Hough illuminates the very essence of the music he plays.

Leonard Elschenbroich, cello
with Alexei Grynyuk, piano

Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at 7:30 pm

No other composer has left behind a legacy greater than Beethoven. Beethoven is everywhere – a global artist whose name needs no introduction and whose language requires no translation. In 2020, the world will celebrate Beethoven’s 250th birthday. Perimeter will mark this occasion in an all Beethoven program with cellist Leonard Elschenbroich who has established himself as one of the most charismatic cellists of his generation and world-wide critical acclaimed pianist Alexei Grynyuk.
