Official Contest Rules and Regulations

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCE OF WINNING. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.

1. HOW TO ENTER THE CONTEST

a. Contest begins at 6:00 Eastern Time (“ET”) October 1, 2012 and ends at 11:59:59 ET on November 15, 2012 (the “Contest Period”).

b. Follow the links and instructions to enter and submit your first name and last name, date of birth, complete address, city, province/state, postal/zip code, skill-testing question and a valid email address in the online entry form. Only one internet entry per person and one internet entry per email address is permitted. Internet entries will be deemed made by the authorized account holder of the email address submitted at the time of entry. The authorized account holder is the natural person who is assigned to the email address by an internet access provider, online service provider or other organization that is responsible by assigning email address or the domain associated with the submitted email address. Multiple participants are not permitted to share the same email address. All entries submitted become the sole property of Perimeter Institute and will not be acknowledged or returned. Use of any device to automate entry is prohibited. Proof of submission of an entry shall not be deemed proof of receipt by Perimeter Institute. Perimeter Institute’s ticketing computer is the official time keeping device for the sweepstakes. Perimeter Institute is not responsible for entries not received due to difficulty accessing the internet, service outage or delays, computer difficulties or other technological glitches.

c. Unfortunately, due to state and provincial laws, grand prize entrants from Quebec, Florida, and New York are not eligible to participate.

d. ONE ENTRY PER PERSON DURING THE CONTEST PERIOD.

2. PRIZES:

a. There are multiple prizes available to be won, as follows:

i. Up to fifty-nine (59) event ticket prizes, each consisting of two (2) tickets to a 2012 CBC Massey Lectures event in one of: St. Johns, Newfoundland; Montreal, Quebec; Vancouver, British Columbia; Calgary, Alberta; or Toronto, Ontario (the “event tickets”). Winners are responsible for all transportation to and from event.

ii. Seven (7) copies of Neil Turok’s book “The Universe Within” mailed to their indicated in address in Canada or the continental United States of America (the “book giveaway”). Entrant’s address must be within Canada and the continental United States, if not and no other accommodations can be made to ship to North America address, prize is forfeited.

iii. One (1) grand prize package available to be won (the “grand prize”), consisting of one (1) trip for two (2) people to Perimeter Institute’s main research facility in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada and CERN’s facilities in Geneva, Switzerland. This trip will be for a maximum of 7 days, 6 nights. Perimeter Institute agrees to cover the costs of: two (2) flights from a major international airport in Canada or the continental United States of America to Lester B. Pearson International Airport in the Greater Toronto Area, two (2) flights from Lester B Pearson International Airport in the Greater Toronto Area to Geneva, Switzerland, two (2) flights from Geneva, Switzerland to a major international airport in Canada or the continental United States of America, ground transportation to and from airports, hotel accommodation for up to (6) nights, daily pre-determined per diems for food and miscellaneous expenses.

b. Certain travel restrictions may apply. Travel arrangements are made by Perimeter Institute. No prize substitutions, cash equivalent, or transfer of prizes permitted except at the sole discretion of Perimeter Institute. Prize subject to availability and Perimeter Institute reserves the right, at their sole discretion, to award a prize of greater or equal value if the advertised prize is unavailable. If the winner cannot travel on dates specified by Perimeter Institute, the winner may be disqualified and an alternate winner selected. All other costs not specifically stated herein, including, but not limited to, taxes, meals, tips and ground transportation, are the responsibility of the winner. Taxes are solely the responsibility of the winner. If a selected event is unable to take place as scheduled, for reasons such as cancellation, preemption, postponement or unavailability, or for any reason beyond the control of Perimeter Institute, Perimeter Institute’s sole responsibility to a winner will be to award the remaining available portion of the prize and no substitution will be provided for the unawarded portion of the prize. Tickets are subject to terms and conditions as specified by the issuer. Seat locations to be determined by Perimeter Institute. Perimeter Institute reserves the right remove or to deny entry to winner and/or guest(s) if he/she engages in a disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person at the event.

3. ELIGIBILITY RESTRICTIONS

a. The contest is open to all persons who are 13 years of age or older and who reside in Canada or the continental United States of America. Employees of Perimeter Institute, House of Anansi Press, Massey College or CBC and each of their corporate parents, subsidiaries, and affiliates, their advertising agencies, participating sponsors/promotional partners, and the members of their immediate families and or households are ineligible to participate or win.

b. Only one winner per household is permitted in any Contest administered by Perimeter Institute.

c. Entrants are required to provide truthful information and Perimeter Institute will reject and delete any entry that it discovers to be false or fraudulent. Perimeter Institute will disqualify any entry from individuals who do not meet the eligibility requirements, and Perimeter Institute will also delete any entry received from persons under the age of 13 in compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act and equivalent in Canada.

d. Any entrant between ages 13 – 19 who is deemed the grand-prize contest winner must have a travel companion over age 19 (in Canada) and over age 21 (in the continental United States of America). In this case, if the winner cannot travel with parent/ guardian over age 19 years of age, winner may be disqualified and an alternate winner selected.

e. In the event that a prize or prize certificate is mailed to the winner, winner assumes the risk of its loss. Perimeter Institute is not responsible for the safe arrival of a prize or prize certificate.

4. CONTEST DRAWS

a. During the Contest Period, the detailed schedule of contest draws is as follows:

i. From October 1, 2012 – October 23, 2012, there will be up to five (5) draws per day to select up to five (5) winners of event tickets. All entries received since the last event tickets draw (or in the case of the first draw, since contest opening) will be sorted by the lecture events selected by entrant (St. Johns, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto), with up to one (1) winner from each sorted group. All entries received will re-enter the pool for book giveaway and grand prize draws.

ii. There will be one (1) draw per week from all entries received for one (1) book giveaway

iii. There will be one (1) draw after the end of the Contest Period to select one (1) winner for the grand prize.

5. SELECTION OF WINNERS

a. Decisions of Perimeter Institute management with respect to the Contest are final.

b. ODDS OF WINNING DEPEND UPON THE NUMBER OF ENTRIES RECEIVED.

c. If a prize or prize notification is returned as undeliverable, and the potential winner cannot be contacted within 24 hours then the potential winner forfeits the prize.

6. CONDITIONS

a. By participating in the contest, the winner or winners agree to have their name, voice, or likeness used in any advertising or broadcasting material relating to this contest without additional financial or other compensation, and, where legal, to sign a publicity release confirming such consent prior to acceptance of the prize. Any entrant under age 19 years of age will have a parent/guardian sign a publicity release confirming such consent prior to acceptance of the prize.

b. Prior to awarding any prize or prize certificate, Perimeter Institute in its sole discretion may require contest winners (and their travel companion) to sign a liability release, agreeing to hold Perimeter Institute, and the officers, shareholders, directors, employees, agents and representatives of each of them harmless against any and all claims or liability arising directly or indirectly from the prize or participation in the Contest.

c. Perimeter Institute, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to disqualify any person tampering with the entry process, the operation of Perimeter Institute’s website or is otherwise in violation of the contest rules. It further reserves the right to cancel, terminate or modify the contest if it is not capable of completion as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention or technical failures of any sort.

d. Perimeter Institute reserves the right to make changes in the rules of the Contest, including the substitution of a prize or equivalent value, which will become effective upon announcement. If due to circumstances beyond the control of Perimeter Institute, any competition or prize-related event is delayed, rescheduled, postponed or cancelled, Perimeter Institute reserves the right, but not the obligation, to cancel or modify the Contest and shall not be required to award a substitute prize.

e. Failure to comply with the Contest rules may result in a contestant’s disqualification solely at the discretion of Perimeter Institute.

f. Perimeter Institute is not responsible for typographical or other errors in the printing, the offering or the administration of the Contest, or in the announcement of a prize.

g. Copies of the written Contest rules and a list of winners (when complete) are available during regular business hours at the main office of Perimeter Institute 31 Caroline Street North, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada N2L 2Y5.
