There is not enough questioning of the questions, or the methods used to answer them

There is a lack of research in the area of non-equilibrium physics – although some progress in being made in this direction.

The research community is set up in such a way that you need to be working in a group, on a specific topic. Otherwise you won’t survive long enough to make a difference.

The funding model also limits the diversity, you have to work on projects which will be funded.

Post – doctoral structure also forces young physicists to spend a majority of their time on topics which will get them another post-doc.

There is a lot of untapped talent, e.g. women.

Historically, breakthroughs have been made by young people who aren’t wedded to a particular view of physics. Today, it seems harder to achieve this.
